Jeans is the item by excellence to create a casual look. However, I have to tell you I’m not a big fan of jeans looks because it’s not a piece that necessarily makes a look classy. Well I mean, in the last few years, trends have mainly focused on baggy or so many different versions of jeans that were often ripped and this is what I mean when I say I am not a fan of the jean look. I do wear jeans and I think that it is possible to wear jeans and feel classy but this requires us to pick it wisely and select the cut that is the most flattering.
1. What you should consider first
The Waist: Choose the high waist – Just forget that the low waist has one day existed. There is nothing more unflattering that the low waist. It makes us appear shorter, bulkier and less elongated, what is left to this cut? Honestly, I don’t get it.
The color: Avoid those “fake” or faded colours that make the look cheap. Instead, opt for solid or bold colours that always appear more elegant and refined.
The holes: It may sound silly but nowadays holes are everywhere, on the thighs, under the buttocks, at the waist and so on. I don’t understand this trend, because there’s really nothing advantageous about having huge holes in these clothes as if they had been torn. Trousers don’t need to show your skin to be flattering, they just need to reveal your figure in a sleeked way.
The finish of the bottom: I hate it when a jeans has threads on the finishing part. It truly looks like your jeans did not have a finish. Even more, the threads tend to become even worst over time.
2. How to choose the right fit
When it comes to jeans nowadays there are so many cuts available to us that the choice is difficult. It becomes really hard to pick the right cut. That’s why you should be really careful to the fit of the jeans. The good new is there aren’t many good fits. The most flattering fits if you want to elevate your casual jeans look are generally the following ones:
The slim fit: The slim fit even if it is running out of fashion right now, it is a good fit to own. I got it that you don’t want to be squeezed in your jeans but you can find a nice stretchy jeans that is quite comfortable.
The straight leg cut: This option is really my favorite. The fit of the straight leg jeans is one of the best option if you wish to elongate your whole silhouette. With its straight effect on the legs, the straight cut creates the illusion of slimmer and longer legs.
Note that jeans do not fit every body shape and it is necessary to look at your personal silhouette in order to define which model suits you the best.
3. How to style it in an elegant way
Here are some tips on how to combine jeans for a stylish and more thoughtful look:
Wear it with a nice knitwear or figure-fitted top to highlight your silhouette. In this look, I am wearing a boatneck I designed myself because I do love boatneck as they are such a feminine garment to wear while being casual.
Add a blazer to counterbalance the casual effect of the jeans and make the whole look more sophisticated. Alternatively, you can wear a nice striped jumper on your shoulders to complete the look or either a fitted trench coat.
If you opt for the slim fit jeans cut, it can be worn with long boots and paired with a long coat or short double blazer for a more stylish look.
On the other side, if you go for a straight jeans you can wear it with a nice pair of sneakers for the day, a pair of heeled boots for a leg-lengthening effect. A pair of pumps can also perfectly work with this kind of jeans for a work day or an evening out.
4. Which brands to opt for
For jeans shopping, I believe many brands can make the job as long as you keep in mind what we have said before. If I had to recommend I like to purchase jeans, here are some:
